Egypt invests LE 130 million to meet rising demand for e-signature services

CAIRO - 22 August 2022: CEO of Egypt’s Information Technology Industry Development Agency (ITIDA); Eng. Amr Mahfouz, stated that the agency has invested EGP 55 million in the last three years to upgrade the operating systems of the Egyptian Root Certificate Authority (Root CA) and to develop the human capabilities.

He added that ITIDA has allocated about EGP 75 million as well to establish an exchange site for the Root CA in the New Administrative Capital to meet the increasing demand for e-signature services. This is in addition to ensuring and increasing the systems and requests’ speedy responses for real-time verification of e-signature validation certificates.

“We are so excited with the current expansion and deployment of the e-signature service in collaboration with the services providers and telecom operators nationwide, which helps in easing access to this important service”, Mahfouz added.

The e-Signature Law, issued in 2004 and upon which the Information Technology Industry Development Agency (ITIDA) was established, supports Egypt’s e-commerce industry by securing the Internet as a legally viable medium for digital transactions and aims to support digital transformation in all state sectors.

It is worth noting that the executive regulations of the e-signature law have been amended under the decision of the Minister of communications and information technology No. 361 of 2020, to accelerate Egypt’s digital transformation adoption; and the central role of e-signature in developing the efficiency of administrative work; and improving the government services, and adding to Egypt’s competitiveness globally.
