STMicroelectronics Opens R&D Center in Egypt's Maadi Technology Park

STMicroelectronics (ST) has opened a center in Egypt's Maadi Technology Park, where about 45 specialist engineers in electronics design and software development are working, rising to 60 by the end of this year. ST EVP Ricardo De Sa Earp held a meeting with Egyptian ICT minister Amr Talaat to discuss the company’s investment plans and the launch of a research and development (R&D) center in the park.

ST is a global provider of electronics and semiconductor manufacturing, and provides semiconductor products, a significant sector in light of the growth of the Internet of Things (IoT) and higher demand for semiconductors and electronic chips. At the meeting, the ICT minister praised STMicro for expanding its investment in the sector and for its choice of Egypt as a location for its new specialist center for electronics design and development research.

Talaat added that the ministry has a strategy to boost digital capabilities, in order to provide workers for the ICT and electronics industry. He said that a Creativa Innovation Hub is being established in the Knowledge City in the New Administrative Capital to provide an integrated environment for the design and development of electronic circuits and systems industry, including advanced laboratories, a training academy, and a technology incubator for start-ups working in circuit design and electronic systems.
