Innovation Cluster Initiative (iCi) is an initiative to create a network of
innovation clusters (iCluster) across the local second-tier technology parks to enable innovation
and entrepreneurship in the field of information and communications technology (ICT).
Technology
Innovation and Entrepreneurship Center (TIEC), of the Information Technology Industry
Development Agency, launched the initiative of “Innovation Clusters” to enable innovation and
entrepreneurship through public–private partnership (PPP). Each cluster specializes in a specific
promising ICT-enabled sector creating new job opportunities and providing accumulated experiences.
An Innovation Cluster is defined as a group of legal entities (cluster
members) which include universities, private companies and entrepreneurship centers. A cluster must
be comprised of one university at least, and cluster members collaborate within a specific work
scope in a certain geographical area to offer high-value innovations to global markets.

Setting up innovation clusters consists of multi phases with calls for
competition. Every accepted cluster benefits from TIEC’s services, funding and incentives for 5
years.
“Innovation Clusters Initiative,” in its first phase, aims to establish two innovation
clusters as follow:
Alexandria Innovation Cluster with a geographic scope that
encompasses Alexandria, Al Beheira, and Matrouh. Its center will be in new Borg Al Arab Tech
Park
Assiut Innovation Cluster includes Minya, Sohag and Assiut. The cluster
center will be based in the new
Assiut Tech
