Egypt and China Sign Five Key Agreements at the Summit of Forum on China-Africa Cooperation

During the Summit of Forum on China-Africa Cooperation, Prime Minister Dr. Mostafa Madbouly witnessed the signing of five significant memoranda of understanding (MoUs) aimed at enhancing cooperation in communications and information technology between Egypt and China.

Information Technology Industry Development Agency (ITIDA) inked a Memorandum of Understanding with Huawei Technologies (Egypt) to: increase the number of professionals in its technical support center in Egypt from 800 t0 1400, launch Huawei Egypt Development Center in Q4, 2024, train 1500 professionals in multiple technical disciplines such as cloud computing and generative AI, and provide support to start-ups and SMEs using Huawei cloud resources to develop their business solutions.

ITIDA signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Tsinghua Unigroup (Egypt), Telecom Egypt and Applied Innovation Center (AIC) to: establish an electronic chip design/system design R&D center in Egypt, collaborate with AIC of MCIT to develop an opensource Arabic large Language Model, set up Unigroup cloud in Egypt, and establish USD 300 million technology fund to facilitate investments by Chinese companies in Egypt.

The Agency also signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Wuhan Fiberhome International Technologies to: establish a local manufacturing facility for fiber cables and telecom terminal devices, set up an R&D center, and set up a telecom technologies training center to develop engineering capabilities in mobile and fixed networks.

National Telecommunication Institute of MCIT and ITIDA signed an MoU with ZTE to: manufacture ZTE selected products in Egypt with local partners, such as Fixed Network Terminals, and Optical Distribution Network Products, and cooperate with NTI in establishing two training labs.

Telecom Egypt (WE), the National Telecommunication Institute (NTI), together with ITIDA signed an MoU with Hengtong to: establish a local manufacturing facility to produce fiber optic cables, collaborate with Telecom Egypt to establish a joint venture for passive access infrastructure, join forces with TE in developing specialized training programs and provision of Fiber Optics equipment for WE Schools, and  establish an academy alongside the National Telecommunication Institute to provide training on Fiber Optics Communication Technologies.​
