Dr. Hossam Osman is an Advisor to the CIT Minister for Technology Innovation and Innovation Sector Supervisor at the Information Technology Industry Development Agency. Dr. Osman supervises nation-level initiatives such as Egypt Makes Electronics, and Innovation Cluster Initiative. Osman joined ITIDA in 2005 as Embedded SW Team Lead, R&D Dept Manager, SECC Chairman, TIEC Project Manager, VP, and Acting CEO for two periods ending March 2016.
Dr. Osman has over 35 years of experience as a developer, manager, instructor, researcher, and consultant in IT and software engineering. His experiences range from academia and industry, private and governmental organizations, small and national-level projects, to domestic and overseas companies.
His industrial experience includes working in Lucent Technology in the USA, Egypt's IT Industry Development Agency, and local Egyptian companies as Nile Online, Data Management Systems, and ASSET. Osman was ITIDA's vice president to manage the Software Engineering Competence Center, Information Technology Academic Collaboration, and Technology Innovation and Entrepreneurship Center. These bodies, once chaired by Osman, offer advice and training to promote best practice in software engineering amongst IT practitioners. They develop software and IT services by fostering innovation and entrepreneurship in ICT.
Dr. Osman's academic experience includes working at Queen's University in Canada, Royal Military College of Canada, Ain Shams University, and Arab Academy for Science, Technology, and Maritime Transport in Egypt.
Dr. Osman received electrical engineering BSc and MSc from Ain Shams University, Egypt in 1985 and 1990. He has electrical and computer engineering Ph.D. from Queen's University. Queen's University awarded his Ph.D. thesis the Engineering and Applied Science Outstanding Thesis Award in 1996. Canadian Advanced Technology Association (CATA) selected him as Ontario's best post-graduate student in Computing in 1996.
Dr. Osman published, as principal author, in reputable journals as Neural Computation, IEEE Transactions on Pattern Analysis and Machine Intelligence (TPAMI), and IEEE Transactions on Systems, Man, and Cybernetics (SMC).
Dr. Osman received training in software and IT best practices, innovation, and embedded systems by prestigious first-class institutes. SEI of Carnegie Mellon, Harvard Business School, SQS of Germany, MDS of South Korea, and QAI of India were among these institutes. He achieved the certifications of ITIL Expert and ISTQB CTFL, and Intermediate Concepts of CMMI and COBIT 5.0 Foundation.
