Cairo, Egypt Thursday, 30 November 2023: Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly witnessed today at the government headquarters in the New Administrative Capital the signing of an MoU between the Information Technology Industry Development Agency (ITIDA), American Synopsys, and Si-Vision to expand the export of electronics design services, semiconductors, and integrated systems in response to the national initiative Egypt Makes Electronics (EME).
On the sidelines, the Minister of Communications and Information Technology indicated that the MoU comes in light of the significant role played by ITIDA to build technological capacities and promote innovation by providing different models of joint work, paying special attention to increasing Egypt's share of ICT and electronics exports, and creating new industries and job opportunities.
The MoU falls in line with the EME initiative and the implementation of Digital Egypt Strategy for Offshoring Industry 2022-2026, which aims at increasing digital exports of ICT products and services and designing electronics and compact software to enhance Egypt's position as a center for value-added and knowledge-based services, provide qualitative and intensive employment opportunities for Egyptian youth by attracting more investment to the sector, and support existing investors to expand their positions in Egypt.
The Minister highlighted that innovation and technological skills are a key driver in promoting economic and social development in the 21st century and a key factor in implementing the global sustainable development goals and addressing major challenges facing the world.
Meanwhile, the CEO of ITIDA highlighted that under the MoU, ITIDA will provide the necessary support to Synopsys and its strategic partner Si-Vision to expand their activities in Egypt in the field of electronics design, including intellectual property systems in the design of semiconductors for electronic circuits and integrated systems, under the presidential initiative Egypt Makes Electronics.
He added that the MoU creates 500 new jobs for Egyptian youth from specialized competencies over the next three years in Si-Vision, which currently employs 600 Egyptian engineers as part of the company's expansion plans and activities that it carries out with Synopsys, which is a global leader in providing electronic design automation solutions to the global electronics market and design techniques for advanced integrated circuit developers and electronic systems.
Under the MoU, the three parties agreed to cooperate to support Synopsys through its local strategic partner Si-Vision to encourage and support the development of highly skilled cadres and support Synopsys and Si-Vision's commercial operations and expansion in Egypt, thus enhancing ICT and electronics in general.
Areas of cooperation under the MoU also include the transfer of technical expertise and work to build the capacity of young Egyptian cadres and train them in the latest advanced electronics design software and tools in Synopsys through the activities of the Si-Vision Academy."
Furthermore, the MoU stipulated that ITIDA should provide access to qualified talents and cadres from graduates of training programs and initiatives overseen by the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology and its affiliates in cooperation with the private sector, including, but not limited to, the Qualification for Employment program (Q4E), which aims at expanding the talent base and competencies specialized in the areas of integrated electronic circuit design, semiconductors, and integrated systems, and assisting local and multinational companies operating in the Egyptian market to reach qualified cadres.
According to the MOU, ITIDA will also provide logistical support to Synopsys and its strategic partner Si-Vision to take advantage of government incentives available to the electronics design sector, as well as provide the necessary support and access to advanced technology labs for the development, measurement, characterization, and prototyping of chips and electronic systems.
All parties agreed to cooperate to support Synopsys through its local strategic partner, Si-Vision, to encourage and support the development of highly skilled cadres, support Synopsys and Si-Vision's business operations, and expand in Egypt, thus enhancing the production and export capabilities of the Egyptian telecommunications and information technology sector and enhancing Egypt's international status as a leading semiconductor design center and innovative electronic systems.
