Deadline: 21 August, 2026
Where Corporate Innovation Meets Startup Agility
A cross border co creation program enabling Japanese corporations and Egyptian startups to build, test, and validate technology-driven Proof of Concept (PoC) projects in a dynamic real market environment.
Program Overview
The ITIDA Innovation Bridge: Egypt × Japan is a cross border co creation program that connects Japanese corporates with high potential Egyptian startups to develop and test digital, data driven, and technology enabled solutions through Proof of Concept (PoC) projects.
Led by the Information Technology Industry Development Agency (ITIDA) in partnership with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), the program provides structured access to Egypt’s innovation ecosystem — including incubation and acceleration programs, specialized talent platforms, the nationwide Creativa Innovation Hubs, and a broad network of mentors, technical consultants, and ecosystem partners supporting teams throughout the co creation journey.
With a population of 110+ million, a young tech driven talent base, and rapidly digitizing sectors such as fintech, healthtech, logistics, and AI, Egypt offers an ideal environment for piloting scalable PoCs. The program enables Japanese corporates and Egyptian startups to jointly validate solutions and explore pathways for future commercial expansion.
Egypt as a Validation Market
Egypt offers a 110+ million‑consumer market, a young tech‑driven population, and fast‑digitizing sectors including fintech, healthtech, logistics, and AI — making it ideal for scalable PoC testing.

What Makes This Program Different?
Startup-Centered Collaboration
Unlike region-focused expansion programs, this initiative is centered on working with Egyptian startups as innovation partners.
The program is designed to bring together the technological capabilities, industry expertise, and innovation strengths of both Japanese corporations and Egyptian startups to jointly explore scalable and commercially viable solutions.
The program specifically connects Japanese corporations with Egyptian IT and technology-driven startups capable of delivering digital and innovation-led PoC solutions.
Flexible PoC Geography
PoCs are implemented where they make the most business sense.
Possible implementation locations include:
  • Egypt (primary validation environment in many cases)
  • Other Middle Eastern or African markets where startups already operate
  • Japan, when testing integration with corporate systems or customers
This flexibility allows companies to design collaboration models aligned with real operational needs.
Curated Matching Based on Business Needs
Startups are selected based on:
  • Alignment with corporate challenges
  • Technology readiness
  • Execution capability
  • Market experience (including regional expansion where relevant)
Structured End-to-End Support
The program supports participants through:
  • Defining collaboration themes
  • Matching with suitable Egyptian startups
  • Designing PoC frameworks
  • Implementation and monitoring
  • Evaluation and next-step planning
ITIDA’s Ecosystem Leadership
This program is anchored in ITIDA’s role as a national catalyst for Egypt’s entrepreneurship and innovation ecosystem , giving Japanese corporations and Egyptian startups structured access to one of the region’s most comprehensive entrepreneurship ecosystems.
Through ITIDA, participants benefit from:
  • Nationwide innovation infrastructure
  • Mature and internationally exposed startup pipeline
  • Comprehensive startup lifecycle support
  • A wide mentor, expert, and partner network
Benefits for Japanese Corporations
By joining the program, companies can:
Engage directly with one of the Middle East and Africa’s most dynamic startup ecosystems
Experiment with innovation partnerships in a controlled, risk setting
Validate collaboration models before scaling
Explore opportunities that may extend into regional or global markets
Some participating startups already operate across multiple countries, allowing successful collaborations to be further explored beyond the initial PoC phase.
These engagements are supported by ITIDA’s facilitation and ecosystem networks to ensure smooth collaboration.
PoC Scope, Scale & Financial Arrangements
PoC Scope and Scale
Small scale pilot projects designed to validate real use cases before commercial deployment.
Financial Arrangements
Financial arrangements for each PoC will be discussed and agreed among the participating parties.
JICA may provide financial support to facilitate startup participation in the PoC. Such support may be provided through a separate agreement between JICA and the startup and may cover part of the startup’s PoC-related activities (typically up to approximately USD 30,000, depending on the scope of the project). The corporate partner is generally expected to provide collaboration support (such as access to data, systems, mentorship or testing environments). If additional resources are required beyond the financial support provided by JICA, the participating parties may discuss and mutually agree on how such costs will be handled.
Program Flow
Note: All dates and durations are tentative and subject to change.
  1. 1. Call for Japanese Corporate Participants (Current Phase) – July and August 2026
Applications are accepted on a rolling basis. ITIDA and JICA will review submitted information, and follow-up discussions may be conducted as needed to better understand each company’s business challenges and areas of interest.
  2. 2. Initial Discussion & Collaboration Theme Definition – Early September 2026
Through structured interviews and clarifications, ITIDA and JICA will work with participating corporates to define priority themes, use cases, and collaboration interests that will guide the startup matching phase.
  3. 3. Startup Outreach, Screening & Matching (Phase 2) – Mid September – October 2026
Based on the defined needs, ITIDA will launch a dedicated startup call through national platforms and networks.
Interested startups will be screened for alignment, technical capability, and readiness.
Shortlisted startups will then be introduced to participating corporates for initial discussions.
  4. 4. Proposal Submission & Evaluation – early November 2026
Shortlisted startups from Phase 2 will be invited to develop and submit proposals based on the Terms of Reference (TOR).
ITIDA, JICA, and the participating corporate will jointly refine the PoC scope, KPIs, milestones, and data requirements.
The final startup selection will be carried out jointly by ITIDA, JICA, and the participating corporate, based on the evaluation of submitted proposals.
As part of this process, JICA will conduct the necessary contractual procedures for financial support in accordance with its internal rules.
  5. 5. Co-Design & Formal Contracting Process – mid November 2026 to late-January 2027
Once the final startup is identified, ITIDA, JICA, the corporate partner, and the selected startup will further discuss and finalize the PoC scope, KPIs, milestones, and data requirements.
The contract will then be concluded based on the agreed terms.
    Contracting Model
    • Japanese corporate and Egyptian startup (PoC agreement/MOU)
The Japanese corporate and the Egyptian startup will agree on an appropriate collaboration framework for the PoC, which may take the form of an MOU or a contract depending on the preferences of both parties, ensuring clarity on deliverables, IP, data, and accountability. The specific terms will be agreed between the corporate and the startup.
    • JICA and Egyptian startup (financial support)
JICA may provide financial support through a direct contract between a startup and JICA, in line with its procedures and procurement regulations.
  6. 6. PoC Design & Implementation – from February 2027
The initial PoC period is typically expected to last approximately six months, although the duration may be adjusted or extended on a case-by-case basis depending on project scope, technical complexity, and mutual agreement among the participating parties.
ITIDA and JICA will jointly support monitoring, provide expert input, and facilitate ecosystem access where needed.
  7. 7. Outcome Review & Next-Step Discussions
Upon completion, results will be evaluated jointly.
    Potential next steps may include:
    • Extended pilot
    • Commercial agreement
    • Joint development
    • Market expansion
    • Investment consideration
    Post-program commitments remain entirely optional.
