Egypt's digital exports increased by 26.5 percent to 6.2 billion U.S. dollars in 2023, up from 4.9 billion dollars in 2022, Egyptian Minister of Communications and Information Technology Amr Talaat said Monday.

Talaat spoke to the Egyptian Senate about his ministry's efforts to develop the outsourcing industry, support the digital sector and increase the country's digital exports, according to a ministry statement.

He said Egypt signed agreements with 74 international and local companies to hire 60,000 outsourcing specialists since November 2022. The minister also noted that the ministry has launched programs to boost the number of workers and independent professionals in the outsourcing industry to 550,000 so as to meet the goal of exporting digital services worth 9 billion dollars in 2026.

Talaat said Egypt has a strategy to develop the outsourcing industry to attract major international companies to invest in Egypt, expand Egypt's digital exports, and create job opportunities for youth in the digital economy.

Egypt launched a five-year strategy for the digital outsourcing industry in 2022 to turn the country into a reliable outsourcing destination and services hub.
